St Thomas Virgin Islands
Welcome to St Thomas in the US Virgin Islands.  St Thomas is one of the most popular islands to live and vacation. The island is one of the busiest cruise ports in the Caribbean. The capital is Charlotte Amalie. With a rich Danish background and popular tourist attractions, St Thomas is one of the brightest stars in the Caribbean today. The popular season to visit the US Virgin Islands runs from mid-November to mid-May. There are roughly 51,000 residents and 32 miles of land mass. St Thomas is one of the largest of the 4 major US Virgin Islands. These include St. John, St. Croix and Water Island. St Thomas is 13 miles long and 4 miles wide. It has one long ridge of small hills running east and west through the middle of the island and smaller ridges branch off. The highest point of St Thomas is Crown Mountain which is 1,556 feet high. It also has a natural harbor and many protected bays.

If you're traveling just about anywhere on the island you will be greeted with terrific panoramic views. Along the many mountainous terrains of St. Thomas and along the beaches you will find an assortment of accommodations; resorts, historic inns, time shares, vacation homes, villas and condos.
One of the fundamental differences in St Thomas island living is driving on the left instead of the right side of the road. Not to worry though, many have said it only takes a few minutes to adjust. You do not need a temporary license if you have a valid US drivers license however in most cases you must be at least 25 to rent a scooter. There is also plenty of parking at the various beaches, attractions and restaurants. If you prefer not to drive, taxis are available at the cruise ship docks, airports and restaurants. Even though taxi charges are standardized you should discuss the price before you begin your journey. Or take the local Vitran bus which is a great way to travel if you are not in a hurry.
The time is the same as Florida except during daylight saving time, where St Thomas is one hour ahead of Florida. St Thomas does not acknowledge Dayligh Savings Time.
The US Virgin Islands became a United States territory and official English speaking region in 1917. English is the national language spoken today but you will hear French Creole and Spanish as well.
